SvTech’s Safety Campaign continues
In continuing their efforts to highlight the problem of horsebox overloading, SvTech has formed an alliance with the BHS and NFU Mutual to publicise the issue at a number of events over the coming 12 months. As part of the Safety campaign, we will be visiting Equine Colleges across the UK to give practical demonstrations to students as part of their Handling and Loading Tests, advising how best to load a horsebox (3.5 & 7.5 tonnes), how to remain road legal, and rectifying any payload issues that may have arisen.
The Partnership will also be present at Equifest this year, offering FREE WEIGHT CHECKS TO ALL HORSEBOX OWNERS. This will be a voluntary scheme, but we must reassure everyone that it is NOT a VOSA operation, and it is in everyone’s interest to be aware of what your horsebox weighs when fully loaded. Ultimately it is a safety exercise aimed at raising awareness and protecting you and your horses, alongside other road-users.
Commenting on the 2012 campaign, Nicki Whittaker, spokeswoman for NFU Mutual said:
“We want people to pay as much attention to the safety and maintenance of their horseboxes and trailers as they do towards the health and wellbeing of their animals. People wouldn’t dream of neglecting their horses’ feet over the winter months and then expect them to compete on top form come the spring and yet, they will often neglect to check the condition of their horsebox or trailer before using it to transport their animals.
"Grass roots education is very important in tackling this important issue and an integral part of our 2012 campaign will focus on equipping young people with the knowledge and skills they require to carry these important safety messages out into the wider equine community.”
SvTech will also attend a number of BE affiliated Eventing competitions, and other events, offering FREE WEIGHT CHECKS to all horsebox owners;-
