About SvTech

SvTech was formed in January 1993, initially to satisfy a demand for Vehicle Downplating. During the 1980's, downplating business had been initiated by and was generally the prerogative of vehicle manufacturers, enabling them to broaden their application range. However, recession in the late eighties had taken its toll on engineering departments and many manufacturers no longer possessed the staff to engineer downplates.

The market turned to vehicle convertors, who seized on the additional work and were able to carry out the downplates in their workshops, providing a fitting service and submit the paperwork to GVC (now VOSA).

Bill Drinkwater, the founder of SvTech, with 10 years experience as a managing director of Southworth Chassis engineering, recognised that such business could only ever be of a local nature but if it could be turned into a D.I.Y service, it could encompass the length and breadth of the country.

Thus SvTech Ltd. was incorporated. The idea caught on and continues to this day.

SvTech has accumulated over the years, a vast database of information about all the makes and models of the trucks. Furthermore, vehicle manufacturers have not been slow to recognise that the SvTech service helps them to sell trucks, particularly in the second user market. Consequently, a flow of technical information is made available to enable the company to maintain the service into the new millennium. The company is a beneficiary of chassis drawings, vehicle specification sheets and bodybuilders instructions from the major truck manufacturers. These are uprated on a regular basis.

The company has produced its own customised software for calculating brake adhesion utilisation and tractor/trailer compatibility in accordance with prevailing legislation and it is able to accurately model the braking system of any type approved truck from 1982 to the current production. This is arguably the most comprehensive brake program in use in Europe today.
